Don't Be an Obnoxious Winner 10-27-2019

 10-27-2019

Tips to making the world better Don't be an obnoxious winner.

I"m pretty sure this goes against the norm for most Americans and many of the building blocks of our nations history. Not only is this a unpopular belief, it could be said its an "Un-American' Belief" We have holidays, songs, mantras, awards, and a President that had a catch phrase of "you're fired" at one time. So yes in our society today we label things as winners and looser. Our Cultures almost Demands that we gloat for the victors and praise the demise of our enemies. It is said that the Winners write the history. or as Ricky Bobby (character from Talageda Nights Movie) said it "if you're not 1st you are last".

I was thinking of this today after reading the news responses to a US special forces attack in Syria which led to the Murder/suicide of ISIS leader Al-Bagdadi (declared enemy of the state)
and 3 children. ( murdered by Al Bagdadi)

Am I glad that people under IS control might have a better chance of being Free? Yes. Was Al-Bagdadi a terrible evil wicked human being? yes. DO I praise his death?. No. Even in death I believe the redeeming nature of God is for all. IF God is love, than shouldn't God love all, even in death? Even evil wicked people? I think so..

To take it to the home. When your favorite team wins, what do you say about the looser. Do you gloat , and do your happy dance, and taunt your family who was rooting against you? I wouldn't say winning is bad, but it can be toxic if you don't handle winning correctly.

Living a spirit filled life requires a different lens to look through. I wish I was better at that. I'm not I promise you. Sometimes I feel Like i try to change my thinking to Christ like so much, because I know what I think about when it isn't Jesus focused. MY nature is sinful I haw no doubt about that. I have many times Cheered when somebody else has lost. But when Christ is in us, we will be transformed by the renewing of our mind (Romans 12:12) and even pray for or enemies (Mathew 5:44) . and Not gloat at their defeat. (Proverbs 24:17) is it easy? NO. is it a better way to live? Yes, I pray that you spread peace in all things

Peace and Love.
In Him
Dad.

Climb Tall Trees 08-28-2019

Climb Tall Trees  (tips to make the world better)

There has been a cloud of loss recently with the transition of our loved one your great aunt Dianne Jackson from here to there. In her last days she told jim her husband she was not scared.  Don't be scared of death, it will cause you to stop livin!  But, Our family has been in this season of grief lately. I was thinking about what they would say, (those who've moved on). I remembered the lessons learned long ago. Climb Tall Trees. I forgot the joy of climbing for some time now. Lately I Saw this joy again recaptured in your face as you sat on a branch of a dogwood tree. For you it was a mountain, even though it was only about 5 feet up.. I do feel like our loved ones who have transitioned would tell us to Climb Tall Tees. The only way to get over the barriers before you is the same way you would eat an elephant....
One
Bite
At A
Time.
So for our loved one, we must continue to reach for the tall things. We must always remember to not let any
tree be too tall to climb. We have more to do. We carry on and say Yes!

Grief is hard, but remember you don't have to feel a certain way.  We go through a lot nothing is forever  You are only guaranteed 2 days.  The day you come in and the day you go out.  Make the time in the middle worth it!

life is a gift celebrate always

I love you

Jason

Dear Daughter 12-13-2016

 Dear Emmaline.

Its been a while since I've written  you.  Christmas is next week.  I was beginning to think that you are about to form memories you will remember forever.  I can remember small details from my kindergarten.  When I was going to St. Francis Elementary School  we performed a play of the 3 little pigs, we had a great playground, and awesome pizza in the cafeteria.  I still like plays, playgrounds, and Pizza.  Anytime you want to go for pizza, i'm your guy. I'll even pay and let you choose the toppings.

Recently we decorated the fireplace,  You and your mother went to the nutcracker play,  If you need a gift idea for your mom, Truffles are her favorite. btw  , You are totally into The Troll toys from the movie.  And you love christmas santa and all that goes with it.

top Christmas movies, we will have to have a marathon of these.

The Christmas Story
Bad Santa (not for kids)
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
Charlie Brown Christmas
Home Alone.

Remember that Christmas is a season, it begins with advent.  Remember to give more than you receive.  I am taking a religious education class at St. Thomas.  The book had a model prayer as follows

Dear God
(naming of God's aspects)
You
(connect a situation to that aspect)
we pray taht
(petition of our heart)
so that
(result we desire)
Amen

my example
Dear God
Faithful Father, Living El. You lead us to restore broke relationships.  We pray that we don't let any relationships with loved ones go dark.  So, that we may learn and grow with our elders, and further our love in you
Amen.

After high school, I did not get along very well  with my parents (meme and pawpaw).  I felt way to different than them, and i was also in love with somebody who they did not like very well.  Me and Dad stopped talking and doing things.  I felt he did not understand me, I felt angry at him for rejecting my faith.  ( I though he was doing this).  I was in a worship service during a college retreat, An overwhelming power came upon me, I felt as if The Spirit was saying to me, Jason you need to forgive your dad.  Immediately I began to weep and pray for my dad.  I knew our relationship was broken and I was prideful. I also began to realize he was a great man of faith, but he was different in the ways he expressed it.  I was more outward than he was.   After that our repair began,  we started to talk more and go camping. He is now both my dad and friend.   We get along very well.   That said.
Life is short, don't let anger of loved ones go dark.  I pray that you don't shut yourself off from any loved ones.  God loves you and he has given you many great family members.  You always Will Not get along with us, or like us, all the time but me and your mom love you so much. We are on your side and we are here for you.    When you are weary, or lost, or struggling, and we are not there.
Pray. God will be your light.

And just a reminder, when you read this. Buy your mom a chocolate truffle.  It will make her day.

anyhow
again we will meet
I love you
Dad.

The Wrong Fork 03-21-15

Written 03-21-15

Emmaline

We wen't to the St Patrick Day parade in Savannah last week.  It was your first time on a bus.  You were so exited. We had a great day.   You did not like the "pow's" which were the muskets from the marching brigades.  I decided to write a book.  I don't know if I will ever finish it.  It could be a year long process.  Its a work in progress. Its one of my crazy ideas.   I'm not even sure if I can finish a book.  But i'm going to try.

TRY NEW THINGS.!:    One, it will keep you living longer.     TWO, it will challenge your brain.   Three:  God has an awesome world he has given you  to enjoy, so enjoy it.   I love doing new things with you.   I hope we can always try new things together.

Here is the introduction.  Its a memoir of my faith journey and of being left handed in a right handed world.   I like to write, but I am not a very good writer.   Make sure you learn proper grammar in school.  I did not.  It made college very difficult.

I love you

The Wrong Fork

My journey of a right brain faith in a left brain world

Jason E. McNicoll

"The world was my oyster but I used the wrong fork"- Oscar Wilde

If I was to go back to my first memory, my earliest memory I don't think I could go before St. Francis Elementary School in Brunswick Georgia. When I was a baby my mom,  dad, sister, and I moved from New Orleans, Louisiana to Brunswick, Georgia. I don't remember living in New Orleans  so Brunswick is home to me. I would describe Brunswick as Coastal.  If you have never been here, It has a laid back southern attitude with a touch of mystery and majesty that I think best shows its self in the marshes that surrounds the home I grew up in . It has its own feel from other places in the state. Its home. I don't think I will ever live to far from the marshes of Glynn county. Dad and mom decided to enroll me and my sister in Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School. She was 3 years older than I . The school was a small private school next to the church in Brunswick. There are a few snapshots of me and mom at the old house but Kindergarten Stands out for me. I remember the smell, the room, the people, the playground, etc etc

Picking up the box of scissors I knew that something was different. The scissors didn't seem to fit quite right. The teacher said Jason you need left handed scissors. Me in my 6-year-old brain new that this was a game changer That I was a right brain person living in a left brain world. Who would have thought that I needed left handed scissors. Within the years I did teach myself to use right handed scissors, generally because of the lack of left handed scissors. So began with a simple activity of cutting paper my journey of learning to adapt to this left handed learning. As most lefties I know I can do many things with both hands.  As A Christian I have learned to life faith many different ways

This book is about using the wrong fork. In my life I have used the wrong fork plenty I am a right brained person in a left brain world. As far as Jesus goes I am a a follower of the way. I don't like labels, But I do generally believe and follow most of what the bible says.   I am on a journey of faith. But I do also feel many times I don't fit into the normal “right” hand faith that the church today speaks of today.

There are plenty lefties in the church today and if you study church history you will find a plethora of leaders and thinkers who went against the grain.

So what does the wrong fork mean?   For years I never realized I ate with a fork in the wrong hand. Then I started noticing everyone else was using their fork in the wrong hand. The left handed fork just made sense to me. Well etiquette states that the american tradition us to use the fork mainly in the right hand. So I state the claim that I use the wrong fork.  And I'm ok with that.

For me its naturally normal to pick up my with my left hand. Its naturally for me to question my faith, and seek different ways to look at the world as the Father designed it. Its my artists heart, my right

brain thinking, or just how I am wired. So be it.  This book is a journey of letters, quotes, songs, and journals of living in a right brain faith in a left brain world. I hope it makes you laugh, think cry and encourages you.

thanks  --JM

Dear Daughther 09-06-2014

This is a song called waiting that your popa "Bill Bacon" wrote for you.  I composed and played the music for it.  We sang it at your baby Dedication in the Pembroke Christian Church in 2012.   I am going to attach the file.  I have no idea if you will be able to play it or not in the future.  If not when you get this e-mail remind me that  i sent it and i'll play the song for you.

waiting is not something
That I like to do
It seems it's been forever
Since We've prayed for you
the minuets turn to hours
and the days they turn to years
And we wonder if God hears us
as we pray though the tears

Waiting
For a dream to come true
And then one day it happens
And Lord what do you do

Bow down and praise the father
and know your prayers have made it though
and now there's no more waiting
no more waiting for you

well i watched you while your sleeping
and I think ahead in time
I know there will come a day
you'll spread your wings and fly
and dreams will take you places
But Love will bring you home
and we'll be right waiting
no matter where you roam

and we'll always be waiting
we'll be waiting
yes we'll always be waiting
we'll be waiting for you

I Love you
Dad.

Dear Daughter 09-04-2014

 Emmaline.

I decided I wanted to write you, so I created this e-mail address for you. ( unfortunately it was deleted )   emmalinemcnicoll@gmail.com.  There are
many things I want to tell you, remind you of, and let you know.   I want to share my world with you as we grow together.  One day I will hand this e-mail over to you and I hope you have a better understanding of who I am.  But more importantly I want you to know who you are.

The 1st thing I want to talk about is Love.   I love you.

The creator of all things Jehovah God loves you.  This is something that I hope you never doubt.  You are loved.
You are a miracle my daughter.  When you were born I could hold you in the palm of my hand.   Literally.  You were born 4 weeks early and were very very tiny.   You passed every test with flying colors.  A powerful little tiny baby you were.  Our time in the hospital was short spent, you were on your way home before we knew it.  God brought you to me and your mother.  I have loved you since before you were born.

My faith in God is very important to me.  You have a history of faith.   Your Grandfather (popa) is an elder in the pembroke church.  Your great grandfather (grandaddy cone) was also a strong Christiaan and elder in the Pavo church.   Your great +++ grandmothers (granny mcnicoll) raised money to help build her church in Glenmora, LA.   Previous generations of your relatives have prayed for you before you were born. There are many more examples of this.    God has called you His daughter because he loves you.  He wants you in his family.

I must tell you that Love isn't always easy.  Especially between husband and wife.   The problems between me and your mother had nothing to do with you.   We both love you greatly.  I am sorry we are no longer together.

As it is now, 2014 you are 3 years old.  So let me tell you about Emmaline at age 3.  You love princesses.  Disney, Sofia, Tinkerbell.  All things girly.  You also like singing a lot.  You are usually well mannered, you can count to 10.  You are very good at puzzles and are very smart.  Your favorite food is Chicken nuggets.  You are usually a good eater.    You like to play.  You are usually very happy. You are amazingly inquisitive.  You love tying new things.   You are a joy to be around.

That is it for now.
Goodnight my daughter.
I love you
Daddy
Jason McNicoll
